Taking iphone pictures of the moon! (Benson H.S. area outreach)

by Jim Higgs, Head of Outreach

We have just begun the good weather observing season and already we have over 1,500 attendees to Star Parties and Astronomy classes staffed by RCA volunteers. There are many events coming up in June, July, and the rest of the year. Please take a look at our Outreach Schedule. We would love to have you participate!

In particular, I want to bring your attention to three Outreach events that will require RCA to stretch "above and beyond" to meet the volunteer needs for what are expected to be events with high levels of attendance:

  1. On July 9, at Mt. St. Helens, we are teaming with FOG (Friends of Galileo), a Washington-based astronomy club to hold an astronomy event at the Visitor Station at Mt. St. Helens. There has been a HUGE response to literature about the event, and we will need at least eight RCA volunteers with scopes. An attendance of 300 or more at the Star Party is expected.

  2. On July 30, at Maryhill Museum in the Gorge, the museum is putting together a special event including a Star Party using RCA Volunteers. We would like to have a least a half-dozen volunteers with scopes in attendance.

  3. On July 30 (yes, the same night as Maryhill), there is Star Party that we've been asked to provide RCA volunteers for at Portland Metro's Glendover Park. Here, we'll need about half-dozen volunteers with scopes.

For more information about the above or any Outreach events, please send an email to me at outreach@rosecityastronomers.org.

To participate in any Outreach event, please send me an email. I send periodic notifications to these and other events to RCA members who are on our "Volunteer List." If you want to be added to our Volunteers List (which does not commit you to any particular event), again, please send me an email.
