Youth Awards Program
Rose City Astronomers offers a Young Astronomers Awards Program to encourage interest in all things astronomical. The program provides awards of up to $200.00 and recognition for completion of astronomy related projects. The program is open to all high school age students in the Portland Metropolitan area. Use whatever skill, interest, or talent you have to explore the Universe. If you enjoy building things, working with equipment, telling stories, writing, reporting, practicing science, sharing the night sky with others, there are projects for you. Astronomical art, science fiction, science in the news, telescopes, research, outreach, all this and more can be the basis for a project and an award. Read the description and requirements linked below, talk to your art, science, English or literature teacher, or contact us for more information. We look forward to hearing from you!

Young Astronomers Classes
In addition, Rose City Astronomers offers a Young Astronomers Classes through Saturday Academy.
Learn the fundamentals of observational astronomy:
- how telescopes work and how to use them to explore the night sky
- observe planets, star clusters, nebula, galaxies
Learn about the Universe: what’s in it, how big is it, how it started and what will happen to it.
We finish with practical advice on how to prepare for a night exploring the universe and offer opportunities to observe under the night sky with RCA members at our star parties. Classes begin April 14 and there is still room for students. We look forward to seeing you.
